Book Club : Hunchback of Notre Dame
On Wednesday, Jan. 15, six of us (plus a visiting cousin) met at Nisha Thatte-Potter's home to discuss Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame." Most of us managed to finish this very wordy book, and we enjoyed it: vivid and amusing, as well as touching, it gives a kind of sociological portrait of medieval Paris complete with social commentary and well-drawn characters. We had mixed reactions to his extensive discussion of architecture but valued his devotion to the cathedral.
